Chapter 801 - 412: Deranged
Chapter 801 - 412: Deranged
What Joshua Hughes said was so unbelievable she couldn’t even process it.
She always clung to her fantasies, convincing herself he was only trying to scare her, that he would never really do something this deranged and inhuman—but he really did it......
Gathering every last bit of strength in her body, she flung up her arm and lashed it hard toward his face, her pale little face and petite figure light as willow fluff. Before she could even touch him, her small hand was clamped tight in his grip. Avery Jane’s lips trembled; she didn’t even have the strength to vent her anger on him.
One hand caught her small hand, the other smoothed over her head. "You like him that much? Like him so much you don’t even want your life?"
She actually wanted to raise a hand against him for the sake of that dead man? Joshua’s cold smile reflected in those beautiful eyes of hers, wide with fear and despair. His voice was calm and unhurried, but the ferocity in his gaze only grew heavier. Joshua tightened his hold on her small hand, slowly encircling it, as if by enclosing her like this she would never be able to run again, and only then could he be at ease.
Avery Jane felt like she was trapped inside a dream. Her lashes flickered once, and her whole being collapsed completely and utterly. "Let go of me, you demon. I curse you to go straight to Inferno. You lunatic, give Wenyard Cooper back to me, give him back to me......"
She screamed and sobbed hysterically, struggling like mad to break free from his restraint, her long legs kicking out wildly.
This was how terrifying he was—he could shatter every last scrap of hope in her life with ease, force her to submit in the cruelest ways, strip away her freedom and dignity. He was a demon, a real demon in every sense.
"I don’t want to see you again, I never want to see you ever again. You lunatic, what right do you have to do this? I hate you, I’ll never forgive you....." Avery Jane cursed and wailed, sinking her sharp little teeth into Joshua’s hand, trying to force him to let go.
"If you keep this up, I’ll dump him into the sewer." Her little teeth sank deep into the back of his hand; beyond the pain, there was that hard-to-resist thrill that came with it. Her breathing grew heavier, and the scent on her body began to diffuse into the air.
He couldn’t bear to hear her say she didn’t want to see him, that she never wanted to see him again. He couldn’t bear to hear the word "hate," or "never forgive." "Promise me you’ll never leave my side again, not even a single step."
He stared fixedly at her tear-drenched little face, a dull ache tugging at his chest. He didn’t have time to think about what was happening to him; he only wanted to hear that promise from her lips.
Joshua’s words lashed across her body like a whip. "No, I won’t, I won’t stay with a demon. I’m going far, far away. I’m leaving you........"
Avery Jane was like someone driven insane. In front of her eyes, again and again, appeared that quiet cemetery, and those few men, looking like bandits and thugs, savagely desecrating what had seemed a solid grave. They turned over the soil, dug out the peacefully sleeping Wenyard Cooper. The scene was chaotic and pitiful.
One sentence from him made her fall suddenly silent. She stared blankly at Joshua.
"You’re not allowed to think about him anymore. From now on, your world can only have me in it." Joshua announced overbearingly. He could no longer endure the fact that her heart held someone else, not even a dead man—not even in secret, not even in her thoughts.
"I love him. I love him. Someone like you, how could you possibly understand feelings? You’re a cold-blooded animal."
She stammered and shivered as she spoke. "Give Wenyard Cooper back to me. I want to see him, I want to see him..." She grabbed at his collar, the expensive suit almost torn to shreds in her hands.
The word "love" came out of her mouth, but it wasn’t meant for him.
His eyes went bloodshot, like a Beast gone completely rabid. From the cabinet behind his desk, he took out a box wrapped in red cloth, with faint traces of soil staining the surface. Avery Jane felt as if a speeding bullet had slammed straight into her heart; she went slack, completely stunned. She had wrapped that cloth with her own hands, tied that knot herself. The knot was a dead knot—only a knife could cut it apart. In that ice-cold box lived the one she cared about most, Wenyard Cooper. She staggered, almost unable to stand.
Joshua looked at her. Her eyes were filled to the brim with heartache, with tenderness, with a softness like flowing water. So this was her, then?
She had never once truly looked him in the eye; she was always cold to him, dismissive, unwilling to pay him any heed. But the moment she looked at the ashes of this dead man, her expression turned dreamlike and ethereal, beautiful enough to drive a person mad.
Avery Jane, in this lifetime I will never allow you to see this man again—not even his ashes. I’ll make sure you’ll never have the face to go before him.
Mad thoughts surged through his blood. When he saw her practically about to lunge forward, his large hand shot out and seized her. "Avery Jane, your husband is such a bookworm. Shouldn’t you satisfy his curiosity a little? Let him have a good look at just how tantalizing his woman is, just how she can drive men insane......."
A dangerous aura rushed at her, overwhelming and suffocating. Avery Jane stared at Joshua, her face deathly pale. What was he going to do?
What did those words even mean?
She wanted to rush over and scoop Wenyard Cooper into her arms, that jade box far too cold—she wanted to warm it against her chest.
But she also wanted to turn and run, because she could feel something terrible about to happen. Her brain throbbed in stabbing waves, and her vision began to blur.
Wenyard Cooper sat on his desk, and that man, like a Beast, closed in on her step by step.
Avery Jane’s lips quivered as she backed away. A sharp pain bloomed in her head; she shook it lightly, trying to clear it. Behind Joshua’s towering frame, there was that tiny patch of red—the box where Wenyard Cooper lay.
She did not want this kind of humiliation. Even though he had already taken her more than once, she still refused this kind of humiliation.
The sky had already darkened. Neon lights from the high-rises shone with a dreamlike glow, staining her little face as well. With fear etched into her features, that face took on a shattering, breath-stealing beauty—like a small animal fallen into a trap, making people want to torment her, to bully her hard.
Avery Jane instinctively tried to run, only to realize she had nowhere left to retreat. There was an electronic key in his hand now; he pressed it lightly. The sound was soft, yet she heard the distinct click of the lock sliding into place. The door was locked. There was no way out for her.
Joshua looked at Avery Jane, his eyes filled with bloodthirsty danger. The proud, arrogant cut of his jaw, sharp and imposing like Jesse Wright’s, and the vicious cruelty pouring off him made him seem like a Beast ready to tear her apart.
"After this, you shouldn’t dare to see him ever again, right? I’ll make sure you remember today, very, very clearly."
His voice was icy and frigid. His long, powerful legs took a step forward; he grabbed her like she was a chick.
"No.......please don’t do this......." she pleaded in misery, clinging to a fragile hope that this man might suddenly grow a conscience and let her go.
Joshua’s thin, cold lips curled into a faint smile, but the look in his eyes was as ferocious as a Beast’s. "Too late, Avery Jane. You always wait until after you’ve made a mistake to beg me. Today, you’re going to take your punishment properly........"
He stared into Avery Jane’s tear-filled eyes, those limpid irises like cut water, veiled in a thin mist of tears.
